McGregor is growing again. The town’s population rose to about 6,400 by 2025, a new subdivision of 100-plus homes is going in east of SH 317, and employers like SpaceX’s rocket test site, Knauf and the industrial park keep bringing jobs. It isn’t the first boom here: the Bluebonnet Ordnance Plant tripled the population in three months in 1942.

West McLennan County tends to have shallower, stonier ground than the clay east of Waco. That’s a good foundation for a road, but it makes water run off fast, so crown, ditches and culverts are what keep a McGregor ranch road from washing out.
