Paving in Midland: what’s different here
Midland started as Midway Station, halfway between Dallas and El Paso on the railroad, and became the oil headquarters of the Permian Basin. It’s still growing, up about 11% since 2020 to nearly 150,000 people, and that growth keeps commercial and residential paving busy.
The land is flat, with sandy and loamy soils over caliche, no rivers, and only shallow draws to carry water off. Water from spring storms and hail has nowhere to go but where you send it, so we grade every lot and yard to move water off and away.
Midland takes driveway work seriously. Any driveway, curb or sidewalk work on public property needs a city permit, issued after the site plan is approved, plus a bond filed before work starts, and driveway approaches must be at least 6 inches thick. We build to those rules and the city’s access-management policy.
